40 years of Elpress: grown to become a leading producer of cleaning systems
For over 40 years, Elpress has been the leading producer and supplier of hygienic products to the food industry and various other sectors. Having started out in 1976 with the delivery of high-pressure pumps for the cleaning of production areas, the innovative business has developed over four decades into a total supplier of complete industrial cleaning systems and other products.
Elpress has developed everything in its product range itself. Motivated professionals engineer, produce and extensively test the products. That means guaranteed quality and reliability and in particular extensive knowledge and experience in the field of hygienic products. Driven by a continuous urge to innovate, Elpress always tries to be one step ahead of developments on the market and to offer inventive solutions for diverse hygiene issues.
From plunger to centrifuge
The first product in the Elpress range 40 years ago was the plunger pump. A high-pressure pump that is still in use nowadays and which raises liquids from low to high pressure by means of mechanically operated plungers.
Over the years, the business developed from being a supplier of pumps to a supplier of complete cleaning systems. In 1988, Elpress introduced the first centralised foaming and disinfecting installation, which made us pioneers in the market for industrial hygiene.
The centrifugal pump also had its debut at Elpress: a pump that works with a low pressure of 20 or 40 bar. This method of pumping – whereby the water is pumped with a rotating wheel – makes it possible to clean a larger surface area in a shorter time. For years now, Elpress has used Grundfos pumps, renowned products of high quality.
Sustainable development
Because a centrifugal pump is energy-efficient, it makes an important contribution to the sustainability of the industrial cleaning systems that Elpress supplies. A centrifugal pump often works at a pressure of 20 or 40 bar and therefore consumes more water than a 60 bar high-pressure system.
With the introduction of the frequency-controlled centrifugal pump in 2014, another important step was taken in the area of sustainability. Indeed, frequency control makes it possible to work even more efficiently. Only the capacity needed at any given moment is used. If only one person is working with the system at a particular moment, the pump will run more slowly. In this way, it consumes less energy.
Low pressure is safer
A low-pressure pump is not only more energy-efficient to use but also safer for machines, computers and sensors. This is an important fact given that machines nowadays contain much more technology – such as control cabinet and sensors – and are therefore more vulnerable. Another advantage of a low-pressure centrifugal pump is that it is quieter than a high-pressure pump.
